Professional Biography
Shannon Deer, CPA, graduated from Texas A&M in 2004 with a BBA in accounting and MS in finance through the Professional Program in Accounting (PPA). After graduation, Shannon was an auditor at PricewaterhouseCoopers. During her time in public accounting, Shannon served large SEC filers as well as large private exploration and production companies. Shannon has maintained a connection with the profession through outside consulting and teaching continuing education programs.
At A&M, Shannon is the accounting Assistant Department Head and a Senior Lecturer. She teaches a variety of accounting courses. At the undergraduate level, she teaches intermediate accounting using a flipped course model. Shannon developed the energy accounting course for Mays offered to undergrad and masters students. She also founded the Certificate in Energy Accounting (CEA) program.
Shannon attempts to provide her students with many high impact learning opportunities, including the Halliburton Energy Case Competition, which she coordinates annually. The case competitions, as well as cases and projects used in her courses, give students exposure to practical experiences they will face in the workforce and an opportunity to interact with high level corporate professionals.
For the Mays MBA programs, Shannon developed an energy finance course, which she teaches in the Professional MBA program. She also teaches an Excel and math boot camp for EMBAs.
Shannon is the recipient of numerous teaching awards, including the Association of Former Students Distinguished Teaching Award, the Ernst & Young Teaching Excellence Award, and the Baggett Teaching Award. Shannon was honored to serve as a Fish Camp namesake in the summer of 2013 (a freshman orientation camp).
Shannon’s published work includes the textbook, Financial Accounting and Reporting, published in 2012 by CCH. Shannon is currently pursuing a PhD in Adult Education through the department of Education and Human Resource Development at Texas A&M. She has several publications associated with her PhD research, including a chapter in the book Lives on the Periphery with a fall 2014 expected release date.

Personal Biography
Shannon grew up in Sugar Land, Texas near Houston. She is much more coordinated in water than on land. She coached summer league swim team in Sugar Land for many years during high school and college, played Water Polo on A&M’s women’s club team, and coached a Masters swim team at A&M. Shannon also loves to wakeboard.
In her spare time, Shannon loves to spend time with her husband and three “children” of the canine variety. Shannon and her husband Ryan are avid Aggie football fans. They were married on Kyle Field in 2011 and were told they were the only couple married on the field.
